De La Soul Cries Foul On Digital Royalty Split

image from upload.wikimedia.orgIndie Tommy Boy is finally preparing to release its De La Soul catalog to the streamline services and the band is crying foul.  “The music WILL be released digitally. After 30 long years of good music and paying their debt to Hip Hop, De La Soul unfortunately, will not taste the fruit of their labor. Your purchases will roughly go 90% Tommy Boy, 10% De La,” De La Soul wrote on Instagram.

While far from the only artists to complain about streaming royalty splits, there’s a lot that’s not clear in De La Soul’s compliant – including that streaming is not exactly a “purchase.”

We’ll keep you posted as Tommy Boy inevitably responds.
