Point Blank Head to a VIP Showcase from Universal Audio at Air Studios

Earlier this week we were delighted to be invited along to the Air Studio launch event by Universal Audio. The event was to celebrate the new Apollo X Interface series and showed off some of the incredibly slick possibilities it enables for live recording. We were able to film some footage from both the Two Door Cinema Club demonstration as well as the London Metropolitan Orchestra. Check out the video below, as the separate sessions were seamlessly mixed as a full track. If recording and sound engineering is your thing, don’t forget you can study a BA (Hons) in Music Production and Sound Engineering with us in London or Online.

United Audio was founded in 1958 by Bill Putnam, whose son we were thrilled to meet at the event and whose reputation as an engineer saw him work with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole and other legends of the era. Amazingly, he invented the multi-band audio equalizer and the vocal booth, and was involved in the development of stereophonic recording.

Years later the company was re-launched by Putnam’s two sons, whose aim it was to reproduce the classic analogue equipment of the previous era and push things forward in the digital age. Today, it’s ubiquitous Thunderbolt interface is the go-to standard for countless studios and producers, and the company’s legacy remains one of the proudest in the game. The unique event included:

  • An Introduction by Fab Dupont, who demonstrated the new Apollo 6X.
  • We were then invited into the Studio 1 Control Room to watch and listen Two Door Cinema Club record their hit single ‘Sun’, with producer Jack Knife, live straight into 4x Apollo Xs.
  • The London Philharmonic Orchestra played an arrangement by Davide Rossi in the legendary Lyndhurst Hall. This was engineered by Olga Fitzroy. We had the privilege of watching the orchestra play from the Aur Studio galleries , before sitting in on a playback session in the control room.

As well as Sound Engineering, we teach a wide range of courses and Degree Programmes in music production, DJing, radio broadcasting and music business. If you have any questions at all, give us a call on 020 7729 4884 or head to our contact page.
