Kwame Kwaten, Point Blank student mentor and Director of A&R at Point Blank Recordings, has been appointed as a trustee for The BRIT Trust.
The BRIT Trust works to promote diversity and inclusion within the UK music industry with a focus on empowering people of all backgrounds through music and the creative arts. With direct funding from The BRIT Awards, The BRIT Trust donates toward education and wellbeing charities which help young passionate people thrive whatever their abilities, ethnicity, gender and sexuality.
During Kwaten’s long-standing career in the industry, he’s had a #1 in the dance chart with his band D Influence, signed to Atlantic Records, been shortlisted for a Mercury Prize, supported the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, James Brown and managed the successful Laura Mvula and Shola Ama. In addition to his work with us here at Point Blank, the music industry veteran heads up the Ferocious Talent agency which helps aspiring artists with management, consultancy, development, in-house production and more.
Speaking about his new post as a trustee for The BRIT Trust, Kwaten said: “I have been in the music business for 32 years and working with The BRITs for the last three years co-chairing its Diversity Advisory Group. So I was obviously honoured to have been elected onto the board of The BRIT Trust. I have to be honest here…. on receiving the email I yelled out very loudly and my wife had to come over to check I was alright. I will not repeat what I said, but just know that I am happy to be a trustee of The BRIT Trust!”
